Idée d’jour

Each has his past shut in him like the leaves of a book known to him by heart and his friends can only read the title.
— Virginia Woolf, writer (1882-1941)

I'm not sure I know my past by heart. There is much lost to my memory, especially anything earlier than the age of six. And there are days I feel like I hardly know my own title.
